Properties

Spikenard essential oil has an earthy, harsh wood like smell that is slightly musty. It is golden yellow in colour having medium consistency.
Origin

It originated in Nepal.

Extraction
 It is extracted using steam distillation process.
Chemical composition

Bornyl acetate, valeranone, jonon, tetramenthyloxatricylodecanol, menthylthymyl-ether and 1,8-cineol.
Therapeutic properties
 Anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic, antiseptic, calmative, sedative, laxative and tonic.
Uses
 Spikenard oil is used for :
  1. rashes
  2. wrinkles
  3. cuts
  4. insomnia
  5. migraines
  6. wounds

Precautions
  • It should be avoided during pregnancy.
Blends with

Lavender, Patchouli, Pine, Vetiver, and spice oils.
